Privacy and cookies

Who is responsible

Diogo Gomes is responsible for the personal data processing described on this page. For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, contact diogogomes@gmail.com.

Optional Google Analytics

With your consent, this site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand visits and improve its content. You can read the site without accepting analytics. The Google tag is loaded only after you accept; refusing does not send analytics requests or consent pings to Google.

Analytics processes cookie identifiers, page visits, visit times, browser and device information, referral information and approximate location. The site removes query strings and fragments from the page and referrer URLs it sends. According to Google’s documentation, IP addresses are used to determine approximate location and discarded before being logged. This does not make all analytics data anonymous.

The legal basis for optional analytics is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). The site’s integration refuses advertising storage, advertising user data and advertising personalisation, and disables Google signals in its configuration. Enhanced measurement, Google signals and optional data sharing are also disabled in the Analytics account.

User and event data retention in Google Analytics is set to two months. This setting does not apply to standard aggregated reports, so it is not a two-month deletion limit for all analytics information.

The Analytics service is provided by Google Ireland Limited, with processing by Google and its service providers. Processing may involve countries outside the European Economic Area, including the United States. Google states that it relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework for transfers to certified US entities, and on Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable. See Google’s international transfer arrangements and how Google uses information from sites using its services.

Cookies and your choice

ItemPurposeDuration
_ga and _ga_<ID> cookiesOptional Google Analytics visitor and session measurementConfigured for 180 days without renewal on each visit
analytics-consent-v1 in local storageRemember your choice, its date, notice version and measurement IDChoice remains valid for 180 days; an expired entry may remain until replaced or cleared

The local consent preference is used to respect your choice, including refusal. It does not contact Google. If storage is unavailable, the choice applies only to the current page.

Use Analytics preferences to reopen the choice and select Reject analytics to withdraw consent. The site stops analytics, removes accessible _ga cookies and reloads the page to unload the tag. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal or automatically erase data already collected. You can also clear the site’s cookies and local storage in your browser. Your choice applies to that browser, not to your other devices.

Hosting and other services

This website is hosted and operated by Diogo Gomes in Portugal. Server access logs are retained for one year. They may include your IP address, request date and time, requested URL, response status, browser information and referrer. They are used to operate the website, diagnose faults and investigate abuse or security incidents, on the basis of legitimate interests in maintaining a reliable and secure website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Server logs are separate from optional Google Analytics and are not controlled by the analytics choice.

Some archive posts include third-party content, such as YouTube, Vimeo, SlideShare, GitHub or Amazon embeds, and externally hosted images. Loading these resources can disclose your IP address and browser information to those services, which may use their own cookies. The analytics preference controls Google Analytics only; it does not control these archive resources.

Links to other websites take you to services with their own privacy policies.

Your rights

Subject to the conditions in the GDPR, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of your personal data, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may withdraw analytics consent at any time using the control described above. Contact the email address at the top of this page for requests; information may be needed to identify the data concerned.

You may complain to the Portuguese supervisory authority, Comissao Nacional de Protecao de Dados (CNPD), or to the supervisory authority where you live or work.
